The Department of Dance at the University of California, Riverside, is pleased to host the meeting of the Nordic Dance Working Group at UCR on November 22 and 23, 2009. The Working Group brings presenters Egil Bakka, Anne Margrete Fiskvik, Elizabeth Svarstad Lauritsen, Siri Maeland, and Petri Hoppu from Norway and Finland. They address interactions of popular and theatrical dancing, with particular focus on the 18th - century minuet and a new notation tool, but also on ways that "traditional" dance manifested in theatrical productions.
Contributions from California presenters Bruce Alan Brown, Rogerio Budasz, Gary Barnett, and Linda J. Tomko will consider multi-national ballets on the Viennese stage, 18th - century Portuguese guitar and keyboard music, especially minuets, and minuet instructions for male dancers by Gottfried Taubert.
Sessions in this two-day intensive are designed to move back and forth from dance floor to conference table and keyboard or guitar, and back again, with ample time for discussion. For information, please contact Linda J. Tomko at UC Riverside,
