INTER-UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR DANCE BERLIN (HZT) / INDEX NUMBER 4/1281/11

The following position is available at the Berlin University of the Arts at the Inter-University Centre for Dance: Professor at an Arts University– BesGr. W 3 – limited to five years with the possibility of an extension and/or tenure.

The HZT (http//:www.hzt-berlin.de) is an internationally oriented educational institution for contemporary dance and choreography under the administration of the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” Berlin and in cooperation with TanzRaumBerlin, a network of the professional dance scene. Three study programmes are presently established at the HZT: Contemporary Dance, Context, Choreography (BA), Solo/Dance/Authorship (MA, in English) and Choreography (MA).

Job description: The future job holder is expected to systematically continue to develop the three study programmes and sharpen the HZT’s profile by closely cooperating with all teaching staff and being actively involved in the relevant artistic context for contemporary dance. It is expected that he or she will intensify national and international contacts and be involved in shaping relevant networks. The future job holder is expected to take on the directorship of the HZT and thus assignments relating to academic administration of the institution; it is also expected that he or she will be entrusted with the coordination of HZT with the two universities responsible for the HZT administration. To do so, a reduction of teaching duties to 50% is planned.

Qualifications: A person of international standing is being sought who has an established profile in the field of contemporary dance and choreography. The applicant should have extensive experience with artistic processes, especially in dance and choreography. He or she should have wide-ranging knowledge on the issues relating to a practice-oriented dance and choreography study programme in relationship to the complex developments in the broad context of contemporary art. Preferred: experience in dealing with academic work and projects at the interface between research and artistic practice; experience in organizing and designing study programmes according to the principle of the Bologna process; experience in directing artistic and/or educational institutional programmes; expansive knowledge of the international dance scene and its working conditions; fluency in German and English, both spoken and written.
