Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Dance

The salary range for Senior Lecturer is A$97K - A$111K and for Associate Professor is A$116K - A$127K per year, depending on qualifications and experience (plus 17% employer superannuation, plus leave loading).

The School of English, Media and the Performing Arts (EMPA), in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, brings together expertise in scholarship and research, with professional and creative practice. It hosts the Creative Practice and Research Unit, and collaborates with the Australia Ensemble and with the UNSW Journalism and Media Research Centre. EMPA teaches programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level in disciplines including Creative Writing, Dance, English, Film, Journalism, Media, Music, PR and Advertising, and Theatre and
Performance Studies.

As part of its planned growth, the School is now seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Associate Professor (Level D) in Dance, with a successful background in Dance practice and/or scholarship and the capacity to provide leadership in the Dance program. The appointee will become Program Convenor in Dance for an initial period of three years. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to teaching in relevant dance courses, undertake postgraduate supervision, provide artistic leadership for the Dance program, and maintain and develop excellence in their own research area and/or creative practice.

Working in conjunction with the Head and other staff of the School, a key role for the appointee will be to instigate and lead the development of a new Bachelor of Dance degree, to be introduced in 2012.

The position is a full time, continuing appointment and is available from January 2011. Level of appointment will be determined on the basis of previous experience and qualifications.
